The Theory of Human Motivation consists in organizing by categories and by different levels of human needs, according to their importance to the person that contains them. The physiological needs are in the lower level of the hierarchy, while the development needs like self realization are in the highest parts of the hierarchy.
I think the way that we can move to higher levels is by firstsatisfying the most basic needs and then those of secondary importance. When a level needs are satisfied, there occurs a state of apathy, and the focus becomes occupied by the needs of the next level and located in the area immediately higher in the hierarchy, being these needs the ones wanting to satisfy. Maslow's theory suggests that the lower needs are a priority, and therefore more powerful than thegreater needs of the hierarchy and places the example that "a hungry man does not care about impressing his friends with his courage and skills, but rather, to ensure he has enough to eat.
The first priority, in terms of meeting needs, is given by the physiological needs. However, not all physiological needs are homeostatic, some examples are: the desire for sex, maternal behavior, and completeother activities. A better description would be grouped into hunger satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, among others. When these needs are not so satisfied for a long time, meeting the other requirements loses its importance, so that they cease to exist. Security needs include a wide range of needs related to maintaining a state of order and security. Some examples are the need of being safe, theneed for stability, the need to order, the need for protection and the need for reliance. I think that security needs often become a major role when they are not adequately met, and most people cannot go beyond the level of safety performance, which is in need of many people to prepare for the future. Among these needs are so many social oriented needs, the needs of an intimate relationship withanother person, the need to be accepted as a member of an organized group, the need for a family, the need to live in a family neighborhood and the need to participate in a group working for the common good with others.
The esteem needs are those that are associated with the psychological aspects of individuals. Maslow grouped these needs into two classes: those that relate to self-esteem respectfor self, self-cherishing and self-evaluation, and relating to others, among which the needs of reputation, status, social success, fame and glory. Self-esteem needs are generally developed by people who have a comfortable financial situation, so this means that they have been able to fully satisfy their below needs. As for the estimation of other needs, these are reached first which the estimationitself, since generally the estimation itself depends upon the environmental influence.
The needs for transcendence are those associated with the sense of community, expressed through the need to contribute to humanity. Many times, people put aside the personal development needs to contribute to society, for the same reason this would be a state of motivation that would overcome theself-realization
The needs to know and understand are cognitive order needs, and they do not have a specific place within the hierarchy, but anyways there were treated by Maslow. These needs would lead to basic needs, as expressed in the desire to know the causes of things and to meet liabilities to the world. On the other hand, aesthetic needs are related to the desire for order and beauty. These needsinclude: the need for order, need for symmetry, the need to fill the
spaces in poorly structured situations, the need to alleviate the tension produced by the
unfinished situations and the need to structure the facts
I believe that meeting the needs of deficiency is necessary but not sufficient for someone to achieve self-realization. It's complicated but I think that the element that could be...
