1. What has Henry IIthought his people?
Henry II thought his people the rule of law and set them an example of good government.
2. How should they remind the king about the duties?
If the king refused to listen therepresentatives of the people would have to join the council. Then, the council and the people, could resist any king´s misrule without being dependent on their lords.
3. What was the name of thecouncil?
The name of the council was called the parliament, which was a Norman French word for a talking-place.
4. What can you said about Richard´s brother?
Richard´s brother was the KingJohn, who had been his father´s favourite son. John grew up to be cruel and selfish, and unpopular. When he murdered his nephew, Prince Arthur of Brittany, the King of France seized all his northernFrench possessions.

The lords and people forced John on 17 th June 1215 to sign the Magna Carta, the great charter of English freedom.
8. What were the characteristics of thecharter? (Bill, documents, etc.)
The charter covered a wide field of law and feudal rights, the two most important matters were: 1) no tax should be made without the approval of the council; 2) nofreeman should be arrested or imprisoned except by the law of the land.
9. Why did fighting break out again?
Fighting break out again because John signed unwillingly and no one trusted him; so thecharter gave the lords the right to use force against him if he broke his word, and because the Pope declared that the charter was unlawful and advised John to tear it up, but John begged in vain....
