Harry Favershamn is really admired by his friends and is considered one of the best British soldiers of his regiment. He celebrates his engagement with Ethne and he’swilling to have a life full of joy and happiness.

One day, bad news arrive. It’s announced that the regiment is going to be sent to Sudan, to rescue a British General. They all are really excited,except from Harry. He was about to get married; he was happy; he was in love. So after overthinking it, he decides to resign his commission. His father couldn’t believe it, so he disowns him.

Oneday, he’s on the church and a package arrives. It’s a tiny box that contains four feathers. The four feathers, from his 3 friends and his fiancé, represent the cowardice. The only way for him not to diea coward, is by returning each feather to his friends, so he decides to go to war.

He goes to Sudan, all by himself. He makes a new friend named Abou Fatma, a warrior. They find out that theBritish stopped their way to bury some dead British soldiers that were left behind. Abou reaches them and tells them that it’s a trick to keep them occupied; cause even though they’re enemies, they alwaysbury them.

During the battle, Harry finds Jack and protects him. Jack is blind now, so he never knows it was him. Jack comes home and he asks Ethne to marry him. When Harry was taking care of him,he found the letters from Etne. Tom tells Jack that Harry was really disappointed when they didn’t believe Abou when he said he was sent from a British soldier. He asked for money because he believedTrench was in a prison and he was determined to find him.

Harry finds him, and they’re both about to get killed. They decide to celebrate and Abou joins them. He gives them “poison” so that theydon’t suffer. What they didn’t know, is that it was a kind of poison that only made you seem dead for a couple of hours, so the Egyptians find them and take them to the dead bodies.
