The Norman Invade Britain
History of the times
Edward promised The duke of Normandy, William, the English throne because Edward have no children and when he was dying he announced the throne toHarold, this make William lead an invasion of England by Normans in 1066.
Harold loose his life in the battle of Hasting, and William proclaimed himself ruler of England.
This new king was crowned onChristmas Day, 1066, the same year he continued until 1071; William smothered the opposition by rapidly building castles throughout the land.
This establishment of a social system called feudalismcreates a hierchy of rulers under the lord.
• Concept of feudalism: is the social, economic and political system of Europe in the middle Ages.
The alternate overlord was the king. William keep thisefficient system of government establish by the Anglo- Saxons but can trailed under his over rule.
Literature of the times
The Norman Conquest displaced the English aristocracy and casted the Englishvernacular.
William made Norman French the language of the state. Old English became absolute and began to disappear from the laws and literature. The learning boom of the twelfth and thirteencenturies results in an array of literature.
Life in Medieval Society
The medieval society of adverse group of people:
• Priest: held and elevated status and were responsible for the administration of thesacraments.
• Knights: Were noblemen responsible for combat and strong leadership of the followers.
• Peasants: Who owned their land.
• Serts: Who did not.
Their responsibilities were to farm theland and pledge loyalty to their feudal overlords.
During the Middle Ages Europeans lived in castles built for villages.
The village was the fundamental social and economic center of medievalsociety. The majority of merchants and artisans lived in Villages.
Town people viewed themselves as having more freedom and opportunity for artistic expression. Rural labors, for other side were yoked...
