Before you read CHAPTER 1

- You will find the following words in Chapter One. What do they mean? Match the definitions with the words in the boxbelow.
1. A vehicle with four wheels, pulled by a horse is called a carriage.
2. When you raise your glass and drink with other people to thank them or wish someone luck, you propose a toast.
3. Whenyou shout to encourage someone or show that you approve of something, you cheer.
4. This is the action where you pour a liquid from a bottle into a glass to drink it.
5. Someone who has a lot ofmoney is wealthy.
6. You make a fist with your hand when you close your fingers tightly.
7. Someone who drinks too much alcohol becomes drunk.
8. A nice way to say that someone is slightly fat isplump.
9. A man who has no hair on the top of his head is bald.
