I´ve decided to talk about Walt Disney because he was the most important film producer, director and screenwriter of cartoons of the 20th century. He was born in 1901 in Chicago, and he had thetypical childhood of a farmer´s son. 9 years later, Disney and his family moved to Kansas City, where he discovered his vocation being the strip cartoonist in the high school newspaper. In Los Angeles, heachieved his first job as a producer of films that combined animation and live-action. After several attempts and his partnership with his brother Roy and Ub Iwerks, the siblings set up DisneyBrothers’ Studio, the seed of the future The Walt Disney Company. The former success was the creation by Iwerks of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. However, Universal Pictures, an enterprise led by Charles Mintzwhich was taking charge of the distribution, arrogated the rights of the character. They had a lot of problems and Disney lost most of his animation staff except Iwerks. Curiously, was in 2006 when TheWalt Disney Company reacquired the rights of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. In 1925, Disney hired a young woman named Lillian Bounds to ink and paint celluloid. They were dating a brief period and they gotmarried the same year. After losing the rights to Oswald, Disney felt the need to develop a new character to replace him. He based the character on a mouse he had adopted as a pet while he was workingin his studio in Kansas City. The mouse was originally named “Mortimer” but later christened “Mickey Mouse” by Lillian Disney. Mortimer later became the name of Mickey's rival for Minnie.
