Trends
Human nature tends to stand out, and this makes society highly dynamic. When trends extend widely enough or they do not respond to the newnecessities of people, other ones come. Everybody has experienced this reality, and in my twenty years of life I have seen how my jeans have got tighter. Nevertheless, there are aspects of society more important that change following trends.
The process of globalization is characterized by greater interconnection amongcountries and cultures, so the learning of languages –which was something that only a small group of people used to have access to–, is now becoming arequirement in schools and universities. When I first asked my parents for an exchange program when I was twelve, any of my friends in the small city where I am fromhad heard about that before. However, my school is starting to offer exchanges abroad to my brother´s generation onwards.
Furthermore, globalization is thereason of a fast development in technology in the last two decades. Transports are bigger and safer, phone communication companies are proliferating, everythingis working through internet, etc. A new generation of cell phones, called smartphones, appeared, as well as new ways of communication such as Skype, sincethey define the relations between peoples and countries. Thus the contact between cultures is increasing, so this favors the exchange of ideas to grow up.Technology and communication, therefore, are fundamental elements in this phenomenon of globalization, which generally defines a common and worldwide trend.
