History

Vegetarianism is a practice that is in the history of the human being since it’s very first appearance. Historians think that the firstdiet followed by the human being was vegetarian.
The first vegetarians known (those we have written documents) appeared in India and ancient Greece in 6 century b.C. In India vegetarianism wasassociated with the idea of non-violence promoted by philosophers and religious groups while in Greece it had medical purposes.
After the Roman Empire Christianisation, vegetarianism barely disappeared fromEurope. However in the 19th century it started being popular again. In addition in 1847 in the UK was founded the first vegetarian society. During the 20th century, due to economic, ethical,nutritional, and environmental concerns, more people became vegetarian.



Concerns

There are many reasons for being vegetarian. These reasons answer to different things such health, ethics andreligion.


Ethical
Some of the ethical reasons appeal to non-human rights in order to say that we can’t kill animals just for eating a specific food instead another with the same benefits. PeterSinger founder of the animal liberation movement sais that if we have other ways to survive we must choose the one which don’t hurt animals.
On the other hand, those who oppose ethical vegetarianismsay that animals doesn’t have the same rights because they aren’t equals morally to humans so we can kill them for food as we wish.
In addition as a result of the spread of factory farming, massmedia and higher environmental consciousness, ethical vegetarianism became more popular in developed countries during the last century. Factory farming is a cruel way to produce massive amounts of meat.They are spared from his mom when they born. Moreover they put the cattles all cramped. Cattles are fatten with compound feed.
