What means English?
English is “the principal language of Great Britain, the US,Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries… It belongs to the West Germanic group of Indo-European languages, though its vocabulary has been much influenced by Norman Frenchand Latin.” (oxforddictionaries.com). So, English, like the rest of the languages is a communication system, original for a place, that during the colonization period it expanded to different places.Therefore, a language with its own origin and history. But English is special.
There is no exact numerical value, common to all sources of information, but most of them agree that Chinese is thefirst language spoken in the world. English is the second with more than five hundred million native speakers, not including who know the language because have studied it, but not usually use it;then, maybe could reach one thousand million speakers.
English is the first language for international communication used by organizations such as European Union or NATO. Involve the eighty percent ofthe business communications, not only banking or the stock market, also trades as Information Technology, talk about Windows, bytes, megabytes is common. Even, Travel Agencies usually recommendsspeak in English in the destination to communicate better.
Miwatts Marketing Group, on June 30th, 2010, published a statistic about the top ten languages used in the Web; English was in the top.This meant that of the one thousand six hundred million approx. internet users in the world, twenty percent of them communicate in English, not including those pages that offer to translate their webpages into English.
English is very present today, so I think is a good idea learn English because that will means enjoy all the benefits that this language offers today.
