Antigua Roma
The Roman world was divided into social groups: Patricians, plebeians, slaves and finally women.
patricians: The patricians were the descendants of the founders ofRome. They were a privileged class.
Plebeians: The plebeians were citizens who settled in Rome after its founding and only had civil rights. They lived of the commerce, Arts and small farms.
Slave:Slaves were numerous in Rome They attended to household chores and they exercised all trades, to the point that free men were having trouble finding where living.
Clothes
The toga was characteristic ofmen. It consists of a long fabric about 6 meters long. Se colocaba sobre una túnica y se ponía de una manera especial. The toga was made of wool and the tunic was made of linen. The Rich were wearingthe toga of wool, very fina and white except in cases of mourning and poor people coarse and dark wool.
Los cónsules, pastores y triunfadores used it with stripes of different colors and goldembroidery. When they were mourning the Romans changed the white toga for a black or gray.
The toga was worn exclusively by men, while women wore the stola. Los ciudadanos no romanos tenían prohibido usartoga.
Today, the toga is dressed in black used in the courts, by judges, prosecutors, lawyers and also is used by college graduates.
