1.- According to the material and the explanations that you gave “Applied Linguistics” has a lot of definitions, therefore is a very diffuse concept because it can depend on the people (people whoknow about the topic) who define it. In this manner we can find complex and simple definitions, as this which is provided by Corder: “Applied linguistics is the utilization of the knowledge about thenature of language achieved by linguistic research for the improvement of the efficiency of some practical tasks in which language is a central component”, or this provided by Grabe, which is visiblyshorter: AL is about “resolving serious language-based problems in society”. Seeing those definitions I can say that is very confusing because there are definitions that are very different from others,mentioning that all talk about the same topic, so is a little complicated make just one definition that encompasses everything the expert say. In my case I prefer the simple explanations, and mysimple understanding about Applied Linguistic is that is the solution of problems relating to the learning of language and maybe translation and the solution of linguistic problems in verbal communicationin the real life. About the scope of Applied Linguistic I can say that the field is very wide because we can find a lot of themes of enquiry as discourse analysis, language acquisition (first, second,third and foreign), multilingualism, text analysis, translation, etc.
To make examples of Applied Linguistic I’m going to take a child and an adult because those cases are very different if we talkabout final results. We all know that children has the ability to learn languages more easily because they have the necessary plasticity their brains, fewer inhibitions and an unconscious tolerancefor mistakes, ambiguity, etc., while an adult has an already structure because of his mother tongue, less tolerance and more inhibitions and fear of failure.
