First we need to know what the Byzantine Empire was, where was it andwhere it existed. The Byzantine Empire was the Eastern Roman Empire during the periods of Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. It was known better as the roman empire or Romania. The capital of the empire was Constantinople, one of Europe’s largest, wealthiest, and most powerful cities.

The Byzantine architecture was built as a continuation of theroman arquitecture. Buildings had great geometric complexity. The main construction materials where brick and plaster, as well as stone was used in some decorations ofimportant public structures. One of the greatest moments of the history of the byzantine arquitecture occured an arquitect invented a very complex system to build domes.

Thebyzantine people lived with the cristian religion. The Church had a lot of power and was feared by many people. Sometimes the church had even more power than the government, even ifit was a monarchy or an empire.

The byzantine art was mainly focused about religion. This was because it wasn’t allowed to paint something that had no relation withcristianity. The byzantine art had a lot onf influence so it spread to eastern european centers, mainly Russia.

The byzantine sculpture was mainly used to decorate thearquitecture. They were used in capitals, columns, cornices, door-posts, screens and balconies.
