Celebration of the eternal life
In terms of knowing the meaning of something you saw or felt, is really hard and it takes some time todiscover what it really means. Sometimes you have to look over and over so you can find anything that you never noticed before. This time I look back into my memories trying to find the picture orpainting that took so much my attention. The first time I saw it was in my book of history of eight grade. Recently I was thinking again about the painting and the name just pop up in my head. I say oh! Iremember now is called El Velorio. The interesting thing is that what is painted there doesn’t make sense with the title. Obviously when you are in any kind of funeral you expect to see people sad evencrying or at least quiet, but in this one you don’t see anyone crying, sad or even quiet. So is kind of weird and characteristic to see this type of “manifestation” going around on what is suppose tobe a funeral.
As the painter is a Puerto Rican one expect to see some native elements. The painting is settled in some poor house, with a child lay down in a table at the center of the paintingsurround by many people and two dogs. This table is cover with a white cloth and white flowers. Something that gives you a more specific point of view of the type of faith that is shown in the painting isthat there is a priest. So they might be catholic or at least the painter was. So I don’t know what exactly the tone would be but is more like a joy one. The roof and the floor are brown and the wallthat is at the back of the people is white. Every person is doing something different. The priest is looking at something that is doing one guy. This guy is holding a big stick with the form of across like representing the cross of Jesus Christ. In the entrance of the house there are two guys playing some instruments.
