Barbie was created the 1957 by Ruth Handler the wife of Eric Handler that was the launcher of Mattel Company that was based in a German doll called Bild Lilly and has been thesubject of numerous controversies and lawsuits, often involving parody of the doll and her lifestyle.
In the 50s Ruth Handler saw that her daughter preferred to play with dolls that have adultcharacteristics than little ones. Ruth porpoise this idea to his wife, but he don’t accepted ending in nothing. Time later they travel to Germany where in a sex shop she saw Bild Lilly which was asexual toy that was being sold to adults, but with time and needed Bild Lilly was started to being sold to the girls and it was so famous that it arrived to USA.
When this occurs Mattel bought BildLilly rights and stop producing them. Then, The change their body, face and a name to Barbie in honor to Ruth daughter Barbara, but the complete name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, that was thegirlfriend of Ken Carson since 1961When all was perfect they present the doll the 9 of march of 1959 in the American International Toy Fair being this date the official birthday of the doll. The firstBarbie doll wore a black and white zebra striped swimsuit and signature topknot ponytail, and was available as either a blonde or brunette. The doll was marketed as a "Teen-age Fashion Model,"with her clothes created by Mattel fashion designer Charlotte Johnson.
In 1971 they changed Barbie`s eyes from being looking to the side than to the front, also they changed their Brest and itchange during time depending time mode, Mattel estimated 1 billion Barbie dolls were sold all time.
