• Problem space: What responsibility do we have regarding animals that have been mistreated in modern farming operation for our daily diets?
• Author’s claim: We need to kill animal with respect andavoid suffering to them.
• Authors Opinion: We should respect over animals who have given us their life so that we can live.
• Author’s argument: we should treat animals as a standard for the wayon how human should treat them.
• Singer’s counter argument: Singer argues that humans and animals suffer the same amount of pain, and therefore, we have no right to kill animals for our consumption.• Author’s Reply: we indeed suffer more than animals since we are capable of some things that animals are not - understanding and emotions such as loss, sorrow, worry, humiliation and many more
•Singer’s counter argument: Singer believes that animals born in factory farms are destined to suffer because of the poor living conditions they offer.
• Author reply: Regarding on how factory farmstreat animals nowadays, not all farms are cruel to animals.
• Further Problem: Singer believe that by turning into vegetarian will reduce the amount of suffering and death of animal
• Evidence:However, Pollan cites a study done by a scientist at the Oregon State University that if all humans were to become vegetarians, more animals would die as there would be fewer land for them to graze on.
•Conclusion: The issue is not that we killed animals but the method that we do so
In his article entitled "An Animal's Place", Michael Pollan tries to justify the consumption of animals by humankind. Asa carnivore himself, Pollan believes that eating animals is acceptable, as long as they are killed in a way that is least painful and with as little suffering as possible.
