William Gates is chairman of Microsoft Corporation, maybe the biggest worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential. He is consistently ranked among the world wealthiest people. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and remains the largest individualshareholder, with more than 8 percent of the common stock. He has also authored several books.

William H Gates III commonly known as Bill Gates was born on 28th October 1955 and was raised in Seattle. Bill Gates first came across computers at the age of 12, and the precocious Gates began programming computers as a 13-year-old while attending one of Seattles most exclusive schools (Tyee Park Elementaryschool) in the Clover Park School district located in Lakewood, Washington. Gates soon befriended a student named Paul Allen and together using the schools minicomputer they practiced their skills.
At the age of seventeen Bill and Allen turned to a computing company called Traf-O-Data. In exchange for free use of a more powerful computer they searched for bugs in the computers system.
By 1973,Gates entered Harvard University as a freshman, where were he met Steve Ballmer, now Microsoft's chief executive officer. While at Harvard, Gates team up with Allen to start to develop a version of the programming language basic for the first microcomputer (the MITS Altair). The software of a basic was a success and resulted in a deal with MITS to distribute the interpreter as Altair Basic. In hisfirst year of University, Gates left Harvard to work with Allen in MITS in November 1975. They named their partnership "Micro-Soft" and stared to work in a little office. After some time of working with MITS Bill decide that it was fair that the software developers should be able to demand payment and some time after Microsoft became independent of MITS in late 1976, and it continued to developprogramming language software for various systems.

In 1980, IBM (International Business Machines) offers Microsoft to write a basic interpreter for its personal computer, the IBM PC. When IBM representatives mentioned that they needed an operating system, Gates referred them to Digital Research (DRI). IBM's had discussions with Digital Research and after some time the two companies dint not get toa licensing agreement. IBM representative Jack Sams mentioned the licensing difficulties during a subsequent meeting with Gates and told him to get an acceptable operating system. A few weeks later Gates proposed using 86-DOS (QDOS), an operating system similar to CP/M (Control Program for Microcomputers) that Tim Paterson of Seattle Computer Products (SCP) had made for hardware similar to the PC.Microsoft made a deal with SCP to become the exclusive licensing agent, and later the full owner, of 86-DOS. After adapting the operating system for the PC, Microsoft delivered it to IBM as PC-DOS in exchange for a one-time fee of $50,000. Gates did not offer to transfer the copyright on the operating system, because he believed that other hardware vendors would clone IBM's system. They did, andthe sales of MS-DOS made Microsoft a major player in the industry. In 1980’s as MS-DOS took hold of the market and gained popularity, Microsoft also started developing applications such as word processors.

Gates oversaw Microsoft's company restructuring on June 25, 1981, which re-incorporated the company in Washington State and made Gates President of Microsoft and the Chairman of the Board. In1983, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, Microsoft Corporation formally came to announced that Microsoft Windows was a next-generation operating system.
Microsoft launched its first retail version of Microsoft Windows on November 20, 1985, and in August, the company struck a deal with IBM to develop a separate operating system called OS/2. Although the two companies successfully developed...
