FEDROS
(Gaius Julius Phaedrus, Macedonia, to 20 to 15 BC - to 50 AD) Latin Fabulist imperial times, the author of five books of fables in verse. The few data that are known to have survived hisbiography through his own work. He was born in the principality of Augustus (between 20 and 15 BC), in the Roman province of Macedonia, possibly in Pieria, as we read in the foreword to the book III, vv.17-20, where the poet is proud of being born in the homeland of the Muses (on Mount Pierio).
Although he was a slave, received a good education from young (mostly in Latin, since his native languagewas Greek). This suggests to critics who was taken to Rome while still a child and there joined the group of slaves of Augustus, which was later freed. This data is in the main title Phaedrusmanuscript (Codex Pithoeanus, IX century), it is presented as "freedman of Augustus."
Under the rule of Tiberius earned the enmity of the powerful minister Sejanus, who was accused of having made maliciouspersonal allusions anonymously behind the mask of the animals from their first two books of fables. He was convicted of the alleged crime and disgraced. His state of absolute economic insecurity led himto seek the support of wealthy and influential as freedmen and Particulón Eutychus, who dedicated two of his books. He wrote his last three works and more and lived until the time of Emperor Claudius(41-54 AD) or, in any case, the emperor Nero (54-58 a. C), although the exact year is unknown.

Según una tradición muy difundida, nació en Frigia, aunque hay quien lo hace originario de Tracia, Samos, Egipto o Sardes. Sobre él se conoció unagran cantidad de anécdotas e incluso descripciones sobre su físico recogidas en la Vida de Esopo, escrita en el siglo XIV por Planudo, un monje benedictino, si bien es dudosa su validez histórica....
