Citizenship

In the text “On political Citizenship in Nineteenth-Century Latin America” the author expose the evolution of theterm in the different levels of the society, Hilda Sabato explains how citizenship has been particularly important in some specific things of the history of Latin America. Hilda also commented someof the problems with the use of this key term and how it has been interpreted along the process of what it is nowadays.

It all starts with Spain and their territories in the early years ofNineteenth century when the monarchy collapsed followed by wars and revolution, independences, the constitution of new political regimes, the redefinition of the bases in the colonies; following those eventsthe attempt to configure nations deliver a result in the late nineteenth century where this process consolidate along some key terms like citizenship.

Then when the leaders tried to configured amodel of government the first think was the monarchy as the other part of the world but finally the republic was instituted in the majority of the nations, this was the beginning of new ideologies,political principles, social theories, political doctrines, etc., with this now is time to go deep into citizenship and its meaning.

The citizenship gain a really important role in the firstconstitutions of the century because that the liberals gave it with los pueblos, las comunidades y el vecino, those terms were related directly with rights in policy and in the society in general, in the otherside its viewed like a guarantee of being part of a nation, a group of people in the same territory. In addition we also can affirm that the conditions of citizenship and the rights it gave to everyperson who earned it is different in each place and population, besides the term itself have been evolved from the very first definition.
