Demonstration in Washington: an example of fight.
At first when I read the text about Martin Luther King, civil rights and all the things that black people wentthrough, I was very surprised because I didn’t know too much about it. In that moment I thought how could white people be so closed-mind at that time, because black people were human beings as much as anyof them.
Moving on to the context of the conflict in 1960’s, USA was into an internal fight because of the discrimination against black people and as a result of that, appears their biggestproblem: the segregation, which means the separation of one people or groups of people because cultural, political or social motives (RAE), in this case was the exclusion of black people because culturaland social motives. This fight was led by this American Baptist pastor, called Martin Luther King, who wanted freedom, the end of discrimination and racism. This desire of freedom was shared with manyothers and it’s reflected in phrases like: “freedom always has been important for me; the only one who was tired was me, tired of giving” (Rosa Parks, 1955, the day that she refused to give up herseat on a bus). And it’s obvious that they didn’t agree with the discrimination, because was awful for them, for example they had to sit in the back part of the bus or in the middle only if therewasn’t a white person who wanted the seat or they weren’t accepted in some jobs, restaurants and schools. This means that they had fewer opportunities than white people in the majority of aspects.
Thiskind of racism and discrimination produced such a discontent in the black American population, that on 28th August of 1963, the Washington’s avenues were full of people who responded to the call ofMartin Luther King and who protested pacifically for significant laws of civil rights, massive federal program of employment, decent houses, voting and integrated education.
