Journal questions

1. What does it mean to be Dutch (or your nationality)?

For me being Spanish mean not only belong to this country, but feel that I am from Spain. Acquire its habits, manners, language, culture, life-style, legislation, policies, etc.

2. Do you belong to an ethnic group/race? Does this reflect on who you are?

No, I do not belong to an ethnic group.

3.Are you a member of a majority group, minority group, and/or dominant
group? How do you know?
Give 2 examples of how this has, or will affect your life?

I am member of a majority group, in this case, Christianity. I think or know is a majority group because in my country, particularly in the city where I live the most of the people belongs to the Christian religion, or follow it.The fact of belonging to this religion make the people acquire habits, as going to the church each Sunday, praying in a determinate way, different than other religions and believe in the Christian book: bible.

4. Regarding the group you placed yourself in the last question, do you believe
that society would place you in the same group? Is there a discrepancy
between the viewyou have of yourself and the view that others (may) have of
you? Explain your answer.

The people will placed me in that group because if you follow a determinate behaviour they associate you with this group automatically. They also know which the ideas of Christians are. The unique discrepancy would be from people from other religions, they can understand what the thought ofChristianity is, but they don’t share our beliefs.

5. How integrated is the neighbourhood you grew up in? the neighbourhood you live in now?

In my neighborhood I don’t have so many different nationalities, the same people is living there since I was born and we have no problem because is a small village, we know each other, we greet every time we see each other, we can rely on the people, askfavors, etc.

6. How wide is your circle of friends (different groups)?
as I mentioned before I belong to a small village so we know the most of the young people, but we have our own group of friends. My group of friends I think is average, we are 10 people but when we go out we hang out with everyone.
On the other side in the university I have a really wide group of friends, mixed with boysand girls.

1. Describe a literary character , a historical figure, or a creative work that has had an influence on you and explain the influence.

For me Robin Hood is the literary character that had and has more influence on me. From the first time I watched the movie (during my childhood) I could not understand why a person is willing to steal money from the rich people for giving itto poor ones, taking a higher risk. With the time you realize that Robin Hood was the perfect example of courage, justice, and humility and what the movie wanted to show is how unfair the world is and also emphasises in the diversity existing in the world, not only in wealth but in everything.

1. Make 3 observations of personal experiences you have been involvedin or
witnessed pointing out differences in gender, race and ethnic status.
For each experience describe how you felt about the situation.
1- One of my friends started criticizing another friend just for being Muslim. The prejudices lead him to think and see the second one as a male chauvinist even without talking with him. The first one does not get on well with the second andis always fighting just because of his prejudices. For me is hard because both are my friends and both are nice from my point of view, but I don’t like the fact that one of them has to criticize the other just for belong to another religion.
2- One time I saw a fight where a group of guys were hitting a black boy with no reason, according to them it was a way of enjoying. For me was terrible,...
