LANGUAGE AND CULTURE
There are many ways in which thephenomena of language and culture are intimately related. Language, of course, is determined by culture, though the extent to which this is true is now under debate. Early anthropologists, followingthe theory that words determine thought, believed that language and its structure were entirely dependent on the cultural context in which they existed.
Of course, there are ways in which culturereally does determine language, or at least certain facets thereof. Our culture does, sometimes, restrict what we can think about efficiently in our own language. For many people, is not just the mediumof culture but also is a part of culture.
PROXEMICS:
Proxemics is the study of such interaction distances and other culturally defined uses of space.
Use of space
Use of time
It tells ushow to organize space in such a way as to control the nature of interaction. Culture also guides our perception of space by defining units of it.
It tells us how to manipulate time in order tocommunicate different messages. When people appear for an appointment varies with the custom, social situation, and their relative status.

Gender Differences in ParalanguageParalanguage:
* Refers to the non-verbal elements of communication used to modify meaning and convey emotion.
* May be expressed consciously or unconsciously, and it includes the pitch, volume, and,in some cases, intonation of speech.
Personal Space
Social distance between people is reliably correlated with physical distance, as are intimate and personal distance, according to thedelineations below.
* Intimate distance for embracing, touching or whispering
* Personal distance for interactions among good friends or family members
