Density Column

Purpose
To create a density column with the use of six materials with varying densities.

Hypothesis
        Considering how thick the honey is,I hypothesize that it has the highest density. Therefore I believe it will be at the bottom of the density column.

Materials
* Two clear cups or containers
* Pancake Syrup
*Vegetable Oil
* Laundry detergent
* Rubbing Alcohol
* Honey
* Water

Procedure
In the first cup, pour in the liquids one by one according to their listeddensities. Pour in the liquids in an order such that the liquids with the greatest density are poured first. Observe.
In second cup pour in the liquids randomly, without regardingany density values. Observe.

Data
Table 1:
Material | Density (g/L) |
Honey | 1.36 |
Pancake Syrup | 1.35 |
Laundry Detergent | 1.06 |
Water | 1.0 |
Vegetable Oil | 0.9 |Rubbing Alcohol | 0.79 |

Results
From the two trials of the experiment, it can be observed that the materials, regardless of what ordered they were poured, arrangedthemselves in a very specific order. The honey sunk to the very bottom, followed by the pancake syrup above it, then the laundry detergent, water, vegetable oil, and finally the rubbingalcohol.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the results did indeed support the hypothesis. The honey, having the highest density value as shown on the table in the Data section, sunkto the very bottom of the cup. This was an expected behavior from the honey if it indeed had a greater density than the other materials. The density column helped to prove thatregardless of the order in which the materials were placed into the container, their chemical properties, in this case the density, ultimately determined their arrangement.
