Depression is a serious problem that impacts every aspect of a teen’s life. Teen depression can lead to problems at home and school,drug abuse, homicidal violence or suicide.
Luckily, teen depression can be treated, and if you are a concerned parent, teacher, or friend, there are many things you can do to help. You can start bylearning the symptoms of depression and expressing concern when you spot warning signs. Talking about the problem and offering support can go a long way toward getting your teenager back on track andteach them there are more solutions to their problems.
Occasional bad moods or acting out is to be expected, but depression is something different. Depression can destroy a teenager’s personality,causing an overwhelming sense of sadness, despair, or anger.

Teenagers and Suicide
Teens who areseriously depressed often think, speak, or make "attention-getting" attempts at suicide. An alarming and increasing number of teenagers attempt and succeed at suicide, so suicidal thoughts orbehaviors should always be taken very seriously.
For the overwhelming majority of suicidal teens, depression or another psychological disorder plays a primary role. In depressed teens who also abuse alcoholor drugs, the risk of suicide is even greater.
