Flying across America
Since 9/11 America has decreased the internal use of flights, for small distances between states. Over the last ten years the number ofairlines flying has decreased by almost half. At the moment there are only five airlines serving the 85% of the U.S market, and they were 10 airlines back in 2000 serving a 90% of the market, sowe can clearly see a decrease of the 5% of service, and a reduction in the number of airlines available for the costumer. Like there is a reduction in the supply of flights from smallcities in between this makes it more expensive for a costumer to book a flight, and sometimes to even find an airline available.
The airlines companies have started making some changes in theway they offer their services, so they can get a bigger profit. Not using small planes is making them help to reduce the amount of seats available, so they can sell more seats using biggerplanes by doing this they reduce the high cost of fuel. Also they are cutting the domestic flights, but the bright side of these changes is that the airlines are finally getting profits.The profit just for one company in 2011 was of $ 5 billion it is a big contrast from the year 2002 where all the companies combined generated a loss of $ 9.2 billion.
With all of thesechanges in the service the peoples that are traveling to some place close they are choosing to drive instead of booking a flight, but they are always options for those that prefer the comfort ofa plane, and the airlines are working with the travel agencies to help them create a bigger clientele giving them the option to book their flight via online and giving them discounts ifthey do it with 20 days before their flights.
