Anxiety disorders

Anxiety: feelings of fear and apprehension.

Agoraphobia: fear of open spaces with no help.

Symptoms of Anxiety
1) Somatic Symptoms: Goosebumps, respiration,perspiration, increase in heart rate, even adrenaline secreted. Mostly like fight or flight.
2) Emotion: sense of dread, terror, moody
3) Cognitive: trouble concentrated, paranoiac, same thought, fearof dying and loosing control.
4) Behaviorally: Escape or avoid situation, respond with aggression, freeze, not eat as much, respond in a very adverse way.

Panic Disorder and generalizedanxiety disorder have free-floating anxiety,
anxiety that isn’t really attached to anything.

Panic Disorder:

Could be a secondary symptom to any of the other anxiety disorders.

Types of panicattacks:
1) Situational Bound: Panic Attack that is tied to a specific situation.
2) Situational Predisposed: It may or may not happen when you face the specific situation.
3) Unexpected: noknown cause

Recurrent panic attacks, within a month, accompanied by the fear.

May lead to agoraphobia.

Theories:
1) Neurotransmitter
2) Chemlin Model: poor regulation on the brain.3) Suffocation False Alarm theory: maybe the brains of these patients are more susceptible to CO2.
4) Genetic
5) Cognitive Theory:
a. Pay too much attention to the bodilysensations
b. Misinterpret them
c. Engage in recurrent thinking

Treatments:
1) TCA
2) SSRI
3) Benzodiazepines
a. Addictive
b. Relapse
c. Tolerance
4)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
d. Challenging the patients thinking
5) Systematic Disensibilization Technique

Phobias: Strong persisted unwarranted fears of specific objects orsituations.
