Narrative (the story telling of anything) is one of the most powerful weapons known by men. Narrative is the chain of events (in a cause-effect line) occurring in a specific time and space. All theevents in life are neutral; however “narrative” taints them with a particular color, smell and feeling. Narrative is subjective depending on who is telling the story and the value that each persongives to the event it-self.
Now a days everyone is submerged in a constant battle of narratives, trying to convince people to think one way or another. It is also truth that there’s is absolutely noway to make someone think and act against their will. “Most experts agree that if you believe in anything it will have the power to affect you. A message that is hidden might not have any more power toinfluence you than do the thoughts and perceptions that originate in your own mind without any influence other than your own”1.
In the film industry the narrative serve as a medium in which“storytelling can be comprehensible”2. This is possible thanks to the editing process of the different shots (that are part of the movie) to make a coherent narrative. On the other hand the audience canfinally make sense of a narrative when identifying its events and making a link between them by cause-effect, time – space, etc. However a narrative construction its not always on a linear form, becausesometimes the audience can infer what is going to happen.
To make it more clear about the importance of the construction of a narrative and its power to make an impact in the audience lets analyze afilm. “Dias de Gracia” it’s a Mexican film directed by Everardo Gout. This movie portrays the reality of a country submerged in its very foundation by corruption, violence and poverty. The movie is athriller filled with many visual/sound effects that make the audience feel involved and empathic with the suffering of the main characters.
