The Gelaguetza start in colonial area in Oaxaca by the Zapotecs but in this time they do this dance like a religious ritual and this celebrate the 2 next Sundays of July 16, they did thisto sacrifice the people to his goods.

In the Gelaguetza we can see 8 dances.
They are:
1. Los Mixes: It comes from the region of the Sierra and one of his characteristics is thebasket with flowers.
2. Jarabe Ejuteco: Comes from the region of Ejutla, their characteristics are of Oaxaca’s valley.
3. Canto of Coyotepec: Is from San Bartolo Coyotepec, the characteristicsare of Indigena Zapotec of Oaxaca’s valley.
4. Region of costa china: it is from Jamipetec Juquila Potzutla and the characteristics are that they have a machete, friend of costeño and respect lifeof woman.
5. Mixtec dance: Cames from the region of Mixteca, Presentatiove or its zone woman.
6. Pochutla: Cames from Pochutla region, dance in pairs.

TheGelaguetza

Is an ancient custom among the Zapotecs, this consists of formalized reciprocal exchange among individuals or communities, who support one another with "gifts" of labor, animals, materialsor food. When the giver is in need, those to whom he has given return "gifts" equal in value to those originally given. It is therefore a way of using the community as a type of bank for accumulatingand withdrawing "social capital."
"El Fortín" is the auditorium of the Gelaguetza and has three levels of stands, A, B and C. The levels A and B are closer than the C of the spectacle, logical aremore expensive but almost all the people want thus pleases.

The name Gelaguetza comes from the Zapotecs, where it means the greatest of courtesies.
