LEGALIZATION OF DRUGS.
The government estimates that narcotics trafficking saps one full percentage point from gross domestic product annually. Fox wrote on August 8th on his website that "radical prohibition strategies have never worked" and that legalizing the production and sale of drugs would curb violence, thereby bringing in more tourists and attracting investment. In August, Jesus Ortega, head of the Party of the Democratic Revolution, the No. 2 opposition party, and Fox's former Foreign Minister, Jorge Castañeda, voiced support for legalization as well. Several proposals to legalize drugs have been submitted to Mexico's congress, although none is up for debate. Calderón, while willing to consider the merits of legalization, has said it would be "absurd" for Mexico to act alone. The popular magazine named Nexos, have published an article in October that talks about the legalization of the drug in Mexico, they say that it could be a good way to create a new discipline in the country. The magazine almost said about the ways that it would affect or contribute to the global economy.
He added that the ban, that was assumed in 1998 by the signatories of the UN that tried toreduce the offer and demand of the drugs, it don’t function as they planed, because at the moment they haven’t results of the opposite.
All that Nexos want about this polemic edition of the magazine is to make think about the several problems that are affecting all the world and they specialize in the problem that we live in Mexico.
These are some arguments against of the legalization of drugs:1) Doesn’t solve the problem of addiction, it only increase.
2) The young people will have more problems with the society.
3) It would make a big problem of health.
4) Is equivalent to legalize a social genocide
5) Will increase the addicts to these substances.
6) The economy or the money will be designated more for hospitals and less for the security.
These are only few ofmany arguments that are true, if Mexico legalize the drugs. Legalizing drugs don’t solve any problem that we are living today like the violence.
One option currently being discussed to address the growth of drug is legalized. It allowed to sale and consumes the drug legally.
This option that was purposed by the government, the Mexican population doesn’t approve that, because they think thatisn’t a good way to fight with the narco.
As we know the issue of legalization of drugs Is very delicate, because it covers various aspects, like social and economic, so to legalize the drugs is very big step for one country, because they have to be aware of what they are doing and be sure that it will improvement the nation and the people have to bring his support to this new law.
A controversial newlaw decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of heroin, marijuana, cocaine and other illicit substances was quietly slipped on to the statute books in Mexico on Monday 24 august 2009. Mexico is enmeshed in a violent war with drugs cartels and traffickers that has claimed more than 11,000 lives in the past two-and-a-half years, and it is keen to explore any new approach that might ease thesituation. Officials believe that the law will ease pressure on the country's overcrowded prisons and allow police to concentrate on dealers and smugglers.
Many in Mexico believe that their northern neighbor would do well to reassess its own ultra-prohibitionist approach to drug use, particularly concerning marijuana, sales of which provide roughly two-thirds of the cartels' profits. Some USstates have indeed moved to decriminalize the possession of small quantities of marijuana but no other drugs. At the same time, arrests for marijuana possession set a new record of about 800,000 last year.
With Barack Obama in the White House, the atmospherics, at least, have been changing. Earlier this year, the US acknowledged for the first time that it shared some of the blame for Mexico's...
