CHAPTER 12
THE MURDERERS DIE
The robber, Toby was hiding in an old house by the river. He was staring Bill´s dog and hewas wondering if Bill Sikes was going there. Soon he heard a knock at the door … it was Sikes. Somebody had told him that Fagin had been caught and the boy told him that the Dodger had also beencaught by the police… the boy also said that he and Charley managed to escape. There was another knock at the door … it was Charley this time. When he saw Bill he was horrified and started shouting“MURDER, MURDER” a crowd was outside the house; they wanted Bill Sikes…
Bill dragged the boy upstairs and locked him into a room. Bill took a rope and tried to escape. He went to the roof tied the rope in thechimneys and made a noose at the other end of the rope. He was going to put this round his body and climb down to the ditch next to the houses. But when the rope was round his neck he stepped backand fell off the roof.  The murderer hung there dead, his dog tried to jump onto the dead man´s shoulders and fell from the roof and died in the ditch.
Fagin was in his cell walking round and round, hehowled like an animal. At eight o’clock in the morning he would die. He thought in Nancy’s murder and Bill’s death during the night. At eight o’clock the cell door opened and he was led out to behanged. A crowd was waiting for that moment ….
 
Epilogue
Monks left England and went to America, where he died in prison. Mr. Brownlow bought a house, in Chertsey; near Maylies’ house and took Oliverthere. Oliver became his son.
