This limitation is on the wits server software NOT on the serial port itself.

In this case one can use hyperterminal together with wits server to do the job using the following procedure:

1.Open hyperterminal (Start->programs->Accessories->communications->Hyperterminal).
2. Give any name to your connection.
3. In the 'Connect to' window set 'Connect using' to the appropriateserial port (say COM1), this should turn the 'Country/Region' and 'Area' boxes into dimmed. Click Ok.
4. In the port settings window make sure to use the following settings:
Bits per second: 9600Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None
5. Now click Ok. This should start the connection.
6. Make sure that you are receiving raw wits data.
7. Now from the 'Transfer' optionat the upper bar choose 'Capture text' and browse to the location where you want to save your wits data (usually RTData folder). Give a name to the file. (Say MyWits.txt).
8. Now browse to thedirectory that contains your file and create a file that has the same name but with an '_smf' suffix appended to its name. (In our case MyWits.txt_smf). This is a semaphore file so that the wits server (inthe next step) always realizes that the file is open and updating.
9. Now you should start receiving the data into your file (MyFile.txt).
10. Open a 'wits server' instance.
11. Create a newreceiver and from the settings of the receiver choose the data source as file and browse to your new Hyperterminal output file.
12. Now create a sender to publish the data to InterACT as usual. Set thesender to get its data from the receiver.
13. Start the sender first. It should start succesfully and wait for the receiver to start receiving.
14. Now start the receiver. It should receive the datafrom the file and starts feeding the server.
If the receiver disconnects after it is connected this means that most properly you skipped the semaphore creation step (refer to step number 8).
