CHECKLIST FOR FIELD SURVEY - MANGROVES

Introduction

Mangroves are forest species of woody plants that grow in lagoon, streams and tropical coasts protected from the waves. Due to its coastal location are always in contact with water bodies of marine origin, or in combination with the water coming through runoff or by the mouth of rivers. Thisgrouping of trees has adaptations that allow them to survive in flooded soil with intrusion of brackish or salty. Among the adaptations are, tolerance to high salinity, aerial roots as stilts, allowing them to be anchored on unstable soils, seed dispersal and floating for more specialized structures that foster the exchange of soil gases in anaerobic mangrove. The main purposes of this job isobtain representative samples in accordance with sampling plan and undertake environmental field based monitoring.

Site information

This work will take place in Southbank institute laboratories, in terms of class theoretical and sample handling in the laboratory. Is also necessary to make some field trips to the mangroves for the sample collection. It is important that any activity performedoutside of Southbank Institute, and has objectives defined within the agenda of the matter, involving the displacement of all students and the teacher responsible for the field, it is essential that each of the attendees are officially enrolled in the subject and also provide permits and authorizations necessary to carry out the development of the activity.

Safety concerns and actions required to minimise the risk

Working safely is a major issue that all companies should consider to keep the employee free of any occupational hazard. OHS is a set of plans, actions and procedures to systematically manage health and safety in the workplace.

The personal protective equipment (PPE) whose primary purpose, prevent disease and accidents that could alter the health of workers in the performance of any work activity.
This equipment will be used in areas where the risks they are exposed can not be avoided otherwise. However, it is very important to note that the security team will not "disappear" the risks involved, but with responsible attitudes (such as having the necessary information for handlinghazardous materials and handling equipment) and good facilities, will ensure the safety and health of users.

The risks to which they may be exposed in the areas of work include:

• Physical hazards such as extreme temperatures, moving objects, needle stick or abrasive, noise and radiation
• Biological hazards such as microbiological material, biological fluids and animal remains
•Chemical hazards involved in handling hazardous chemicals such as acids, bases, flammable, explosive and toxic, among others.

PPE, is designed to safeguard health and safety working people against a particular hazard risk. People who are working in laboratories must wear the basic laboratory standard stuff like as, laboratory coats, enclosed shoes, and eye protection.

Necessary Permitsor authorization required for statutory authority

• Federal statutory authorities are typically established under the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997. Statutory authorities at the State or Territory level are established under corresponding State or Territory laws. Each statutory authority tends to have its own enabling legislation, or originating act, even if it was...
