EDGAR ALLAN POE

One the greatest and unhappiest of American poets, a master of the horror tale, and the patron saint of the detective story. Edgar Allan Poe first gained critical acclaim inFrance and England. His reputation in America was relatively slight until the French-influenced writers like Ambroce Bierce, Robert W. Chambers, and representatives of the Lovecraft school createdinterest in his work.
After the death of his wife, Poe began to lose his struggle with drinking and drugs. He had several romances, including an affair with the poet Sarah Helen Whitman, whosaid: "His proud reserve, his profound melancholy, his unworldliness – may we not say his unearthliness of nature – made his character one very difficult of comprehension to the casual observer."Here are a piece of one of his poems where he talks about his feelings about his death wife

Dim vales - and shadowy floods -
And cloudy-looking woods,
Whose forms we can't discoverFor the tears that drip all over!
Huge moons there wax and wane -
Again - again - again -
Every moment of the night -
Forever changing places -
And they put out the star-light
With thebreath from their pale faces.
About twelve by the moon-dial,
One more filmy than the rest
(A kind which, upon trial,
They have found to be the best)
Comes down - still down - and down,
With itscentre on the crown
Of a mountain's eminence,
While its wide circumference
In easy drapery falls
Over hamlets, over halls,
Wherever they may be -
O'er the strange woods - o'er the sea

Ilove this poems for me it is one of the most beautiful poems by Edgar Allan Poe because in this I think he represent the sadness that he feels when his dear Leonor die and he wrote and atthe same time he express other experiences.

He got good but above all bad experiences that maked him stronger and now one of the greatest initiators of the horror stories.
