Dress Code 2010 - 2011
Students are expected to be appropriately dressed for every occasion while on campus
and while representing Pomfret School off campus. Clothing should be neat, not torn,
andshirts must be tucked in. Students should exercise good taste and judgment in this
matter. In a case of differing opinions, however, the faculty member is the final arbiter on
what does and doesnot constitute “appropriate” dress and appearance.
When classes are not in session, students may wear appropriate clothing of their choice.
Simply put, the clothing should be appropriate for publicwear, again, in the opinion of
faculty. Clothing which advertises or otherwise displays anything related to drugs or
alcohol, profanity, sexual innuendo, or disrespect for any person or group is notappropriate at any time.
During the academic day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, students must
be wearing “formal class dress,” regardless of their academic schedule, in the followingbuildings: Clark Memorial Chapel, the dining hall, administrative offices, and any
academic building. Again, on those days, formal class dress must be worn in the dining
hall at breakfast and lunch.Additionally, students must be in “informal class dress” on Wednesdays and Saturdays
(when classes are held) in the dining hall for breakfast and in the academic buildings
(listed above). Classdress is not required for lunch on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Formal Class Dress:
In the fall and spring terms, boys must wear an appropriate collared shirt with a tie or
bow tie, and a sport coat.Appropriate pants (not including any style of jeans or cargo
pants) or Bermuda shorts (not including cargo shorts) must be worn. In the winter term,
the aforementioned dress code applies, though asport coat is not required.
In the fall and spring terms, girls must wear an appropriate dress, or skirt with a blouse or
