Theoretical framework
Estelí is a department in Nicaragua, located north of the central region. Bordered on the north by the department of Madriz, south with the departments of León and Matagalpa, on the west by the department of Chinandega and east by the department of Jinotega. It has an area of 229.7 km ² 2.
It was created by legislative decreeon December 8, 1891 with five municipalities: La Trinidad, Condega, Pueblo Nuevo, Limay and Estelí. In 1989 the municipality of San Nicolas de Oriente, previously belonging to the Lion, was built Estelí department legislative decree.
It has a population (2005 official estimate) of 215,384 inhabitants, distributed by 59% in urban areas and 41% in rural areas.
The provincial capital is the cityof Estelí.

1 - The name of Estelí
For researchers the name of the city comes from the Nahuatl ilzetl 'Obsidian' (Black Stone), and how misumalpa li, 'river water', it would be "River or Rio obsidian black stone", another translation of ix Nahuatl name is 'eye, face, front', telli 'flat valley field' ie 'eye on the valley' or 'What you have in front of the eye' has also translated thisterm as "What comes from the eye (eye of water) and extends over the valley. According to Alejandro Davila Bolaños, linguist and historian, comes from a word Estelí bilingual. Eztlili, translated from Nahuatl as eztli 'blood' and the word Matagalpa as li 'water, river' or 'river of blood'.
2 - Description
Located in a privileged place for its climate, the mountains, at 843.97 meters, the cityof Estelí is one of the most pleasant climate throughout Nicaragua with the highland monsoon type, which is characterized by subtropical dry but quite cool, has in some climate zones of tropical savannah type, modified by ridges and mountains surrounding the city. The municipality is constantly changes due to the advance of the agricultural frontier and the clear-cutting of forests.
. Thepopulation distribution is predominantly urban, 81 percent of its more than 100,000 inhabitants. They live in urban areas while only 19% live in rural areas.
The Pan American Highway passes his side communicating with the capital city, Managua which lies 148 km. Its geographical location is 13 ° 05 'N latitude and 86 ° 21' length OE.
Its urban fabric, fully in checkerboard, as in almost all the colonialcities of America, spans the valley opening, between apples, plazas and gardens which houses government buildings like the cathedral.
As head of the department of the same name and primary city of Estelí northern maintains a large industrial and commercial activity. The department, mountainous, nature parks keeps relevant acting as a tourist attraction as the cascade Estanzuela with its 40 mhigh enables incredible high jumps or Moropotente Plateau with its highest point at 1460 m.

The Esteli Valley is part of a large complex volcanic fissure type, which consists of different vents. It is believed that the last eruption of this volcanic complex was in Holoceno.6
