Tell us about your academic/career short-term and long-term goals. How has your Hispanic heritage influenced these goals?

In the United States, based in the U.S. Census Bureau, there are over308,745,538 people that reside in this country, with 16.3% of them of Hispanic heritage, which is 50,325,523 people. I am a bicultural person; I live in the U.S.A., but have Hispanic heritage. My parentshave always worried about my education; they always tell me to do my best in every aspect, especially in school. They have taught me manners, raised me well with values and morals, and have guided methroughout my life and my spirituality. Because of them I knew, from a very young age, that a university education is essential and not questionable for me to pursue. I already have in mind the goalof developing - the most I am able to - my knowledge, my qualities and my persona. I want to become a physical therapist, mostly, because of the encouragement my parents have given me. Subsequent togetting my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I want to open a clinic for physical rehabilitation while pursuing my doctoral degree.
My Hispanic heritage has made me feel different, important and unique.I often watch how students at my high school have no ambition whatsoever to even get an associate’s degree, much less aspire to more. Most feel that since they already have a job, it will providethem with an excellent economic salary in their future. I have been taught differently. I know that a university degree is an important and essential step in my life as without it my future will be astruggle for economic stability, personal growth, and professional opportunities. Conversations about universities with my parents are frequent. They tell me that when I get there, I need to do my best,to make a better individual out of me, not just to pass the class, but: to go with the purpose of learning and acquiring new skills, to get the best grades I am able to, to study and put effort in...
