Today’s world is rapidly changing. One of the causes of these changes is technology. It is a fast growing industry and our society is fascinated with it. It has made our life easier in many ways.Nowadays you can have a conversation through the phone anywhere and at any time and information is available at a push of a button. It also helps businesses and allows people to work from home.Social networking and computer games are part of this new technology. It’s part of today’s entertainment. Facebook is one of the biggest and fastest growing social networks. It allows people toconnect with each other from different parts of the world without leaving your home. It also provides the opportunity to meet new friends and find old friends. And all of this is free. It is also atool to promote businesses and services to millions of people that enter the program every day.
Although Facebook has many advantages, people are getting addicted to it. Since it is a program that isavailable 24 hours a day people are spending several hours of the day conversing, browsing, reading, looking at pictures, and posting. As a result they spend less time dedicated to studies which thencreates bad study habits and bad grades. Studies have showed that people who spend more time on Facebook spend less time studying and although every generation has had its distractions this one isconsidered a unique phenomenon. Students who used Facebook showed significant lower grade point averages, like the difference between getting an A and a B. The study also showed that the studentsappeared to be in denial about the effects on their grades.
Facebook has become part of the social life of young people and although there are positive aspects on its use there is also a greaternegative one known as cyber bullying.
