Resumen. Realizamos una revisión documental acerca de los factores de riesgo que desencadenan las alteraciones de la articulación temporomandibular y apreciamos que entre estos tenemos: factores biológicos, estructurales y sociales que producen trastornos de tipo muscular, articular, oclusal y a losmovimientos que imposibilitan al paciente realizar sus funciones normales, y que tanto requiere de la atención estomatológica; al mismo tiempo que han sido muy controvertidos por los diferentes autores e investigadores del tema. Esté trabajo se realizo con el objetivo de actualizar el material existente y ampliar los conocimientos sobre los factores de riesgo que son múltiples procesos y elementosnocivos que en un momento dado actúan en la aparición de trastornos temporomandibulares, los que no siempre son bien tratados por parte de los profesionales de la estomatología en general y una razón pudiera ser no realizar un diagnóstico temprano por la falta de dominio de los factores que están presentes en la enfermedad; y que nos llevan abordar estos temas dirigidos a nuestros profesionales,para que puedan trazarse las estrategia de intervención en su comunidad, realizar trabajos de educación para la salud, fomentar salud y prevenir alteraciones de este tipo en la población, ya que estas han aumentado su frecuencia, en correspondencia con un fenómeno de manifestaciones mundiales ya que la literatura alude que las mismas afectan a un porcentaje elevado de la población (80%), con unaedad media de 34 años y una proporción de 3 mujeres por cada hombre. Summary We carry out summarizes a documental revision about the factors of risk that unchain the alterations of the articulation temporomandibular and we appreciate that among these we have: biological, structuraland social factors that produce dysfunctions of muscular type, to articulate, oclusal and to the movements that disable the patient to carry out its normal functions, and that so much requires of the attention stomatology; at the same time that they have been very controversial for the different authors and investigators of the topic. Work be one carries out with the objective of to modernize theexistent material and to enlarge the knowledge about the factors of risk that are multiple processes y elements noxious that in a moment given they act in the appearance of dysfunctions temporomandibulares, those that are not always very treaties on the part of the professionals of the dentistry in general and a reason could ser no to carry out an early diagnosis for the lack of domain of thefactors that you/they are present in the illness; and that they take us to approach these topics directed to our professionals, so that they can be traced the intervention strategy in its community, to carry out education works for the health, to foment health and to prevent alterations of this type in the population, since these has increased its frequency, in correspondence with a phenomenon of worldmanifestations the literature mentions since that the same ones affect to the population’s high percentage (80%), with a 34 year old half age and a proportion of 3 women for each man.
