Factors in Learning a Language
How long does it take to learn a new language?
It depends on several aspects such as languagebackground, it can take you three months, or maybe two or years. Acquisition never ends and everyone is different, the more time per week you can spend learning a language, the faster you'll be able to reach your goal. To become fluent within the year, you should devote at least a few hours per day to studying, It also dependent on the languages that you already know and the language that you arelearning. For instance, a native English speaker, then learning Dutch will be the easiest language due to they are similar languages, on the other hand learning Mandarin Chinese will be more challenging and take longer to pick up. But if you speak a romance language, then learning another romance language (like Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or French) will be a relatively rapid process.
What do we knowabout second language learners?
Second language learners are people who learn a second language. While Second-language is not only a scientific discipline which studies that process. But also the academic discipline of second-language acquisition is a sub-discipline of applied linguistics. It is broad-based and relatively new. As well as the various branches of linguistics, second-languageacquisition is also closely related to psychology, cognitive psychology, and education. In addition, second language acquisition, is referred as the learning of third, fourth or subsequent languages.
What influences the learning of a second language?
The factors that influence the acquisition of a second language

There are a number of factors that determine the acquisition of a language the time ittakes to learn a new language depends on several aspects like how much time you can spend studying, your ability to learn languages, and your will for learning the language. Some students learn a new language more quickly and easily than others. Clearly, some language learners are successful by virtue of their sheer determination, hard work and persistence. However there are other crucial factorsinfluencing success that are largely beyond the control of the learner. These factors can be broadly categorized as internal and external.

Internal factors are those that the individual language learner brings with him or her to the particular learning situation such age: Second language acquisition is influenced by the age of the learner. Personality: Introverted or anxious learners usuallymake slower progress, particularly in the development of oral skills. Motivation: Intrinsic motivation has been found to correlate strongly with educational achievement. Clearly, students who enjoy language learning and take pride in their progress will do better than those who don't.
