Gastroenterology is the medical specialty that deals with all diseases of the digestive system , comprising :

•esophagus
• stomach
• liver and bile ducts
• pancreas
• the small intestine (duodenum , jejunum, ileum )
• the colon (large intestine )
• rectum.

A gastroenterologist needs to have adetailed understanding of the normal physiology of every organ and above mobility through the intestines and gastrointestinal tract to maintain a healthy digestion, food buffer , removal of useless andmetabolic processes.

Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine concerned with digestive diseases. The practice of gastroenterology concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment involving the esophagus ,stomach, small intestine and large intestine (colon ), liver, gallbladder and pancreatic diseases. This field of medicine is actually a specialty of Internal Medicine , for example , cardiology , whichdeals with heart disease .

A gastroenterologist is a specialist who was first trained in Internal Medicine and subsequently in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system. Oftencalled a gastroenterologist in cases of abdominal pain , rectal bleeding, or change in bowel habits, when the diagnosis is unclear or where specialized diagnostic procedures are required .

Thegastroenterologist must have completed six years of college for a degree general physician. Then , he / she must complete an additional three years of specialty training in Internal Medicine and twoyears of training in the specialty of Gastroenterology .

A gastroenterologist performed surgery. Their work is limited to diagnosis and treatment. However, in the general classification of surgery,gastroenterologists perform procedures such as liver biopsy and endoscopic studies , examination of the esophagus , stomach, small and large intestine.
