Analyze the view that US military intervention in Vietnam was more a necessity than a tragic error.

The view that USA’s military intervention in Vietnam was a tragic error, has become popular viewwhich argues the case mentioning the unnecessary atrocities and inhumane military methods used to defend an unpopular regime, causing a latter lack of support and loss of Moral face for the USA.Nevertheless if we analyze the USA’s reasons to get involved in this conflict we may understand that it was a necessity to take action in Vietnam for many reasons.
The view that American intervention inVietnam was a tragic error is supported by several facts. Firstly, once Ho Chi Minh had declared the independence of Vietnam not only did he clearly outline his desires for good relations andcooperation with USA but also he based his constitution and many of his policies on USA’s model. Furthermore with the intervention of the United Nations through the Geneva conference Vietnam was split onnorth and south and was allowed to have elections to decide its fate, but before this could happen through American intervention the elections were canceled and a regime was imposed in South Vietnam. Thiscould be seen as mistake because instead of simply supporting a new emerged pro-American state the USA engaged itself in what became an incredibly expensive war. Furthermore in the practical militaryinvolvement of the USA many flaws can be found. Driven by the belief that the technological and cultural gap between Vietnam and them would condemn Minh’s movement and without considering theVietnamese historical desire for independence the USA thought they’d engaged in what would be a swift war. This led them to the use of newly developed military weapons and heavily bombing which they failedto see as violent and unnecessary.
