Heroic Soldier: IN THE HEAD

In society, now a day, there is a vision of heroic soldier that still remains. The vision of a soldier who puts in danger his life, wins war, and finally brings victoryto his home and country. This hero knows that, in war, life is in danger and that there is huge percentage of possibilities of dying. Otherwise the patriotism is bigger and more important. He goes towar with a sense, a big purpose encouraged by the idea of victory, recognition and glory.

In almost all movies of heroic soldiers of history, we could see three basic episodes in the hero’s mission:The difficult departure, the initiation, and the victorious return. In the shortcut “In the Head” we could see a whole different plan of the mission. The director used originality and a bit of comicsense to make this movie so special. Antoine, the protagonist starts his journey leaving his girlfriend to list to war. He quits his normal life to become what we have called an “heroic soldier”.The originality of this shortcut is shown at the beginning of the story, because, uncommonly to the classic style; Antoine dies after his departure with a shot in his head; he rises the path, an angelof god stops him at the entrance of heaven, and tells him that he has to die of another way. The only thing he had to worry about was: his “camera”, meaning that he could enter heaven only if he diedwith his head untouched. At this point our hero changes his focus. He now goes to war with a new goal, which is not to win victory or recognition, this is: TO DIE.

What gives, in a certain way, acomic and original touch to the movie is the failure of the protagonist. Even though he makes what’s possible to save his head, he fights against destiny and dies repeatedly times damaging his “camera”.After his constant failure, he realizes that his sense of Heroic soldier had changed; now he was going back to life, to die again and again and again.
