History
In November of 1620, the protestants ultraboys of the Mayflower disembarked in the coast of Massachusetts, fulfilling their intentions when settling down the Colony ofPlymouth. The rigorous winter in those latitudes took to them by surprise, without having time to prepare for hard conditions of deprivation and cold. Although the tradition dates from 1621 and it has been celebrated of a way or another one since then, the celebration as official holiday is themore recent. In 1789, the first president of the United States, George Washington, proclaimed the date like national day of Thanksgiving. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln declared thatthe celebration was made like national celebration of the United States. Nevertheless, it was not until 1941 that the Federal Congress established the date like official celebration.
