Ready to Go
For my British Literature final project, I have been asked to answer this question: Are you prepared to be a life-long learner and ethical leader in a global and changing world? And am I ready to graduate from high school? Through the years of high school, and previous years, I have taken advantage of the education that my parents have provided me and from my teachers obtained. Soin the next few pages I will try to convince the reader that I truly feel that I am ready to graduate, and go to the next level, university. I also know I will be a life-long learner and always seek to be an ethical leader for the rest of the people, and especially with the younger generations.
First, why do I feel prepared to be an ethical leader? In school, most of my teachers and directorshave been a role model for me to follow. I have learned from them not only concepts, or formulas, or ideas, but also important values that will stay with me for the rest of my life. All the school that I have been in: Colegio Montessori, Carroll Senior High School, and CAT, focus very much on ethical values and promotes them among the students every year in many different ways. In CAT, everydirector, psychologist, teacher and members of the staff, have worked together to fight against bullying, and promote a healthy environment for every CAT student, and this is a legacy that CAT leaves to their students. Besides school, my parents have always done their best to teach me appropriate behavior with other people and also myself. Much of what I am today and the values I posses came from myparents and as they corresponded to me so will I with other people and the young. I know how to show respect and treat other people the way I want to be treated.
I believe I am an ethical leader and I can even be a better one in the future. First of all, to be an “ethical leader” you have to be or at least want to be a leader, I think. I consider myself a leader because all my life I have beentrying to act as one. Throughout my life I have been leading or seeking to lead different activities, groups, ideas, sports teams, projects, and such.
For example, I love team sports and there always has to be at least leader in a team if this one wants to achieve a common goal. I have been mostly in soccer and football teams through my life, and I can say I have always looked up for all myteammates and the collective goal. In 5 years playing football, I was always one of the leaders of the team, and I remember myself pumping up, lifting up, and helping every teammate that was down, physically or emotionally. While playing my second football season it was when I realized what a leader was all about and how one was supposed to act. In one of the toughest games, against our more dislikedrival, my couch took me my and two other teammates apart from the whole team and gave us a short speech. He told us that we three had to take the role of leaders and keep the team fighting together till the game was over, that we had to encourage our teammates, and not only play next to them, but with them. That day was the day I learned what a leader is: not the best player, or the tallest, neitherthe strongest, but one that will fight for the rest and will make sure that the rest stay together to achieve one common goal. Many teammates looked up to me and wanted me to play on his side. Those years when I played football were the ones that taught me that I wanted to be someone who will lead for good and not divide, and I learned that I could lead a group of people and carry them through theprocess.
In high school, being a senior represents being a role model for the younger kids. Even though some seniors do not really see the impact they can have on some kid, I know that I can influence and be a role model for a 7th grader, for example.
