Beautifyng Athens:
Athens was a city in ruins when the war of Persia ended. Pericles saw this destruction, as a chance to rebuild, gloify, and beautify Athens.

RebuildingAthens:
The city-states paid a tribute to the Delian league organization, but Pericles used it to beautify Athens, and some city-states get angry. He also spent the money top ayartists, architects, and sculptors for the projects he made to beautify Athens.

The Acropolis:
One of the areas rebuilt was the Acropolis. It is an area where importanttemples, monuments and buildings are located.
He also constructed the Parthenon. Its purpose was to house a statue of Athena, a godesses.
Expanding the empire
Athens wasdetermined to protect its overseas, homeland, and trade. At the end of the Persian war, the Greek city-states formed a league for mutual protection called Delian League.

DelianLeague:
It was called like this, because its headquarters and treasury were located at first on the island of Delos. Pericles used money to built a strong navy.

Athens Dominatesthe Delian League:
In 454BC, the Delian league’s treasury was moved to Athens. Athens started treating the other members of the league as if they were conquered people, notallies.
Pericles strengthens democracy:
Pericles wanted to balance the power between the poor and the rich. He said that “before the law, everyone is equal.”

Paid PublicOfficials
Pericles increase the number of public officials who were paid. The characteristis to be a citizen and individual had to be a free man, over 18 years and be the son ofAnthenian-born parent.

Direct Democracy:
The form used from Athens was called direct democracy. There all citizens participate in running the government.
