PROCESAMIENTO Y ANALISIS DE IMAGENES ASTER PARA EL ESTUDIO
METALOGENETICO DE MALIMAN, SAN JUAN

ABSTRACT
Malimán region is one of the GEOSAT-AR Project study area. The main objective is to obtain themetallogenetic map of the
area located between S29º to S30º and W69º to W70º30´, in the NW of San Juan Province, Argentina. Taking advantages of high spatial
resolution and the wide spectral range of ASTER data, alteration zones are identified, also its distribution and gold epithermal
mineralization relationships. Tertiary volcanism of Valle del Cura region belongs to the physical continuity ofChilean tertiary
stratigraphy and volcanism, which include the Cerro Tórtolas Formation and the Tilito and Escabroso formations from Doña Ana Group.
These units form the El Indio-Maricunga Belt, which overlaid the basement integrated with Permian Triassic volcanic rocks and
granitoids and other carboniferous rocks. There are three main structural systems: NS, WNW and NNE. The changes in theconvergence
velocities and subduction angles of the tectonic plates during Tertiary, affected the three systems, producing horizontal movements in
the N-S structures and distention in the NNW structures. In the intersection of these lineaments with WNW structures, are located the
regional eruptive-explosive complexes like Cerro Veladero, Cerro Colorado and Cerro Pelado. Regionally, thereactivated WNW
structures border the north limit of the Colanguil batholite.
It was extracted the digital elevation model (DEM) from 15 ASTER stereo data to orthorectify the images, which were mosaiked.
VNIR, SWIR and TIR ASTER data were processed to determine the distribution of hydrothermal alteration zones. which are different
kinds of silicification affecting breccias, argillic and propyliticalterations. The steam-heated alteration includes: residual silica and
sulphur, opal silica, crystalline silica and vuggy silica. The advanced argillic alteration presents the silica-alunite and alunite-kaolinite
associations. The argillic alteration presents illite-kaolinite-illite association. The propilic alteration affects rocks of porphyric texture,
andesitic composition, with much pyrite andincludes the chlorite-magnetite-pyrite association and epidote into faults. Some images
sites proccessing and results, as Vicuñita, Las Minitas, Precordillera, Valle del Cura and La Ollita Formation, are described.

INTRODUCCIÓN
La Hoja 2969 III Malimán a escala 1:250.000 es una de las áreas de estudio del Proyecto
GEOSAT-AR. Se encuentra en el sector noroccidental de la provincia de San Juanentre 29|00´ 30| 00ಿde latitud sur y entre 69|00ಿ- 70|30ಿde longitud oeste. El objetivo es obtener el mapa
metalogenético de Malimán, con identificación de zonas de alteración alunítica, potásica y argílica
y zonas de silicificación, su distribución y vinculación con la mineralización epitermal aurífera
mediante la extracción de información espectral del procesamiento de datos ASTER.
En estetrabajo se presentan algunos resultados del procesamiento digital de las imágenes
ASTER del sector comprendido desde el este de la Hoja Malimán hasta el límite internacional con
Chile (figura 1).
La región mas destacada por su potencial minero es el Valle del Cura, ubicado en el borde
occidental de la hoja. Se han definido varios proyectos, siendo los más importantes Veladero Norte
Au (Ag) yLama Au-Ag-Cu, ambos emplazados en la Formación Cerro Las Tórtolas de edad
terciaria. Sin embargo existen numerosas áreas con manifestaciones hidrotermales que pueden ser
identificadas en las imágenes ASTER, como por ejemplo Jagüelito (Au-Ag), Vicuñita (Cu-Au),
Difunta Correa (Sb), Los Despoblados (Au-Ag), Cerro Alumbre (Au-Ag), La Ortiga ( Au-Ag),
Veladero Sur (Au-Ag), Guanaco Zonzo (Au-Ag),...
