Third Age is an anthropo- social term that refers to the population aged or elderly people . At this stage the body deteriorates and thus is synonymous with old age, senescence and oldage. This is a group of people who are 65 years of age or older. Today, the term is leaving used by professionals and is used the term elderly ( in Spain and Argentina ) and elderly (in Latin America) . It is the seventh and final stage of life (prenatal , infancy, childhood , adolescence, youth , adulthood and old age or old age) occurring after death.
In Japan , aging is a status symbol ; iscommon for travelers who register at hotels age are asked to ensure they receive appropriate deference. In contrast , US aging usually is considered undesirable . Stereotypes about aging , youthinternalized and reinforced by decades of social attitudes can become personal stereotypes that often unconsciously act as prophecies self-actualizing .
This age group has been growing in the populationpyramid or age distribution in the population structure , mainly due to the decline in the mortality rate by improving the quality and life expectancy in many countries.
Living conditions for thoseseniors are especially difficult , because they quickly lose job opportunities , social activity and socialization skills , and often feel neglected and excluded . In developed countries , mostly enjoybetter living standards, are subsidized by the state and have access to pensions, health guarantees and other benefits.
There are even developed countries providing job without discriminating on age andwhere raw experience and ability. [Citation needed] The diseases associated with aging ( Alzheimer , arthritis , diabetes , cataracts , osteoporosis etc. ) are most frequent in countries developingthan in developed countries.
The International Day for Older Persons is celebrated on October 1st .
