ARE YOU AN ADDICT?
Some years ago, life used to be simple and quiet; every afternoon, libraries were full of young people reading books and doing homework with friends. On weekends, people used tomeet with their neighbors to prepare barbecues and have fun. Young boys were seen bringing roses and serenades to their loved ones. Everything was perfect. People were friendly, generous, hard-workingand healthier. But, unfortunately anything is perfect and everything started to change when “Internet” appeared; libraries were replaced by Google and Wikipedia. Hotmail, Yahoo, Facebook, Hi5, Twitterand all these social networks which allow chatting or texting takes the place of personal communication and because of virtual shopping or computer games people have become prisoners of the fictionalworld created by the “Internet addiction”. Although, internet is considered as one of the most useful tools invented to survive in modern life, it can cause some negative effects in social life,academic performance and even to health.
As any addiction, there are many problems related to the addiction to Internet. Some of them are the complications it can cause to our social life such as lossof friendships, divorces and sometimes just a waste of time. First of all, because of the excessive use of the internet, some people forget about the importance of face to face communication. Forinstance, they prefer online communication like e-mails, facebook and video chats. Besides, the excessive use of social networks can cause divorces and many relationships can be affected. It happensbecause many spouses feel alone, betrayed and abandoned. Also, the excessive use of internet can become a waste of time. For example, many people spend a lot of time in front of a computer playing uselessgames for hours losing contact with the real world.
