Introduccion A La Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease known for many years. It is characterized by a defect in insulin productions; this cause a rise in the level of sugars in the blood and in severecases can cause coma or even death. Patients with diabetes are 3 to 4 times more likely to develop some severe cardiovascular condition, in contrast with persons do not suffer from this condition. Thehigh prevalence of diabetes should make it be considered a global pandemic. Where today there are over 150 million people with type 2 diabetes (Palma, Calderon and de la Calle 2005).
Accordingwith the authors of the article: Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease: A Statement for Healthcare Professional, the diabetes occurs most often after adulthood. It can be caused by defective secretionof pancreatic B cells and insulin resistance. The insulin resistance can be develop by physical inactivity and obesity, also insulin secretion decreases over the years (Grundy et al 1999).
Whatis diabetes and why it occurs?
The diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by high glucose levels, also call hyperglycemia. This disease occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enoughinsulin or when it fails to act in the body because the cells do not respond to his stimulus.
Types of diabetes
I. Diabetes type 1- The main characteristic is there is not production ofinsulin at all. So these people need daily doses of insulin to maintain their appropriate glucose levels in blood. According to The National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse (NDIC 2008) and I quote “Type1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. An autoimmune disease results the immune system turns against a part of the body. In diabetes, the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing betacells in the pancreas. The pancreas then produces little or no insulin.”
II. Diabetes type 2- According with (NDIC 2008) the most common form of diabetes is type 2 diabetes. About 90 to 95% of...
