Introduction
 
The purpose of this project is to introduce the character life of Consuelo in the novel The Meaning of Consuelo, through poems: bio-poem, haiku poem, personification poem, metaphorpoems and simile poems. Consuelo Signe have a very young age like, 14 years old, she has long thick eye lashes  and dark eyes. She is la niña seria (the serious girl) and the oldest child of herfamily. Consuelo name is from the meaning comfort and consolation. She hadn’t always lived in the capital city, her family moved there the year that she started the second grade.
 
The role of Consuelo inthe novel is the most important because The Meaning of Consuelo is a vivid description of her life from the childhood through the adolescence in the island of Borinquen (Puerto Rico). Consuelo ismarked by several struggles and difficult themes like, poverty, becoming a woman, losing virginity “The talk at my school was always about the girls who “did it,” but I had never gotten their storiesfirsthand since none of my friends had done it. Or if they had, I didn’t know about it. Now I had done it. And it couldn’t be undone.”(page 420).Another struggle is her painful experience, like lost herbest friends and cousin “I saw Patricio handing ober his ticket at the counter. I wanted to call out his name, say a proper adiós, but my mother was holding on to my arm, muttering something aboutMili. I saw Patricio get in line to board his flight. He did not look back.”(page 264). Also the pressure and the responsibility that she feels with her sister “… Mili, from the word Milagros, a miracle,was supposed to bring the light into our lives. I was to console, care for, and watch over her.”(page 39).
