Invisible Children, Inc.
This organization was created by Jason Russell, Bobby Bailey and Laren Poole, who traveled to Northern Uganda, Africa, and saw incredible horror and suffering specially inchildren who slept in the streets because they were afraid of being abducted.
They discovered the longest-running war in Africa. The LRA, Lord’s Resistance Army, led by Joseph Kony, is a rebel groupresponsible for Africa’s armed conflict. For 26 years, Kony has been growing his army by abducting over thirty thousand children, turning the girls into sex slaves and the boys into soldiers. Thisarmy goes all around central Africa destroying villages and killing people.
The LRA started in Northern Uganda in 1986. Since 2008, the LRA has expanded into three countries: Central Africa Republic,Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 2002, when the International Criminal Court was started, their job was to find and demand the arrest of the world’s worst criminals. Although there are a lotof criminals, Kony’s crimes, made him first on the list. It is obvious that Kony should be stopped but the problem is that 95% of the world’s population doesn’t know what he is doing or who he is.When Jason, Bobby and Laren went back to the US, they thought that if the government knew, they would do something about it; but everyone they talked to said that there was no way that the USA wouldever get involved in a conflict where their national security wasn’t at risk. As the government said it was impossible, the only thing they could do was to tell everyone they knew about the invisiblechildren. And when they did, people were shocked and their awareness became action and they built a community around the idea of “where you live, shouldn’t determine whether you live”. As a result, theunseen became visible.
